Remember all that talk about Doctor Strange appearing in "Thor: The Dark World" a week or so ago? Well, there's still no official word on that rumor one way or the other, but at the very least, we know that the actor said to be a lead contender for the part of Stephen Strange — "Lord of the Rings" and "Eastern Promises" star Viggo Mortensen — is absolutely not involved.
Speaking with Omelete, Marvel Studios' very own Victoria Alonso denied reports that Mortensen would be playing the Sorcerer Supreme in the upcoming "Thor" sequel, even if he's still a desired candidate to get involved with Marvel at some point down the line.
"We would love to work with Viggo Mortensen. I've been trying that for years," said Alonso. "But I don't know if Viggo is even acting anymore. I thought he wasn’t acting anymore. It would be great to work with him in the future, but we don’t have him signed, no."
Mortensen and "Warrior" actor Joel Edgerton were both said to be top contenders to play Strange in the next "Thor" movie, functioning in a role similar to Doctor Eric Selvig. We're having a hard time buying that rumor ourselves, but we would have an equally hard time suppressing our cheers of joy if the rumor turns out to be true. We'll let you know more as we hear it.
